Dr. Prashanth Haribabu Dr. Haribabu focuses primarily on surgical procedures including complex dento-alveolar surgical procedures including wisdom teeth surgery, implant surgery, bone grafting, sinus augmentations, biopsies, and other minor oral surgical procedures for medically complex patients. At this location, his practice also encompasses management of orofacial pain – neuropathic and TMJ disorders and IV conscious sedation.

Educational Background

Dr. Haribabu received his D.D.S. from the University of Detroit Mercy, Michigan, in 2018. He received advanced residency training in Orofacial Pain- TMJ disorders and fellowship training in Infectious diseases dentistry from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, New Jersey in 2015. He is originally from India, where he trained extensively in Oral and maxillofacial Surgery (MDS-2010) and was practicing surgeon prior to relocating to the U.S

He is currently a fellow of the International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) and fellow of the International College of Dentists (ICD). He holds active membership with the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (ACOMS), Missouri State Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, St. Louis society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (SLOMS) and American Academy of Implant Dentistry

With over 18 years of clinical experience focusing on surgical practice. Dr. Haribabu has been constantly updating and training himself to keep up with the evolving changes in the patient’s needs so he is always available and be able to deliver the best to his patients who need his expertise.

Currently he also serves faculty and Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health- A.T. Still University, St. Louis, MO. He is very passionate about sharing his expertise and knowledge to the next generation of surgeons who will serve this community.

He also utilizes state of the art in pharmacological preparations in managing neuropathic orofacial pain relief for patients suffering from persistent pain in the mouth.

Bone Grafting for Implants

Do I Have Enough Bone for Dental Implants?

After a tooth extraction, the socket will often fill in naturally with bone within two to three months if the surrounding walls are thick; however, when the bone is thin—commonly in the front teeth—healing can be less predictable. In these cases, a bone graft is typically placed at the time of extraction to preserve the width and volume of bone needed for future implant placement. If a tooth has been missing for many years and the bone has significantly thinned, a graft may also be placed later and allowed to heal for several months before an implant can be placed.

In some situations, additional bone grafting may be needed in the upper jaw if the sinus cavities are large or extend into areas where implants are planned. This may require a sinus grafting procedure, during which the sinus membrane is gently lifted and bone is added to create sufficient height for implant placement. Bone grafting procedures are generally comfortable and can often be performed in the office with local anesthesia, sometimes in combination with sedation, and in certain cases may be completed at the same time as implant placement.

After Implant Placement FAQ

Many options are available, and they are tailored to your specific requirements. If you need a replacement tooth while the implants are healing, temporary removable teeth or a temporary bridge can be made. If all of your teeth are missing, we can usually modify your present complete denture or make you a new temporary denture.

If you would prefer non-removable teeth during the healing phase, temporary transitional implants usually can be placed along with the permanent implants, and temporary teeth may be made and inserted the same day. Depending on your particular situation, some implants can be placed and “loaded” immediately. This means a temporary or permanent replacement tooth can be placed on, or shortly after, the day the implant is placed.
